U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Ashley Basurto, a radio operator and native of Tampa, Fla., with Combat Logistics Battalion 15 (CLB 15), Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), was named Task Force Forge‘s Defender of the Week, for her exceptional contributions to the southern border mission in Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 14, 2025. Over a three-month period, Basurto executed over 50 missions to the joint operating area, where she called in over 50 Simulated Medical Evacuation Cherry Picker drills. Simultaneously, she oversaw the welding of over 500 brackets and the pre-fabrication of over 2,000 meters of triple-standard concertina wire in support of southern border operations. JTF-SB executes full-scale, agile, and all-domain operations in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to protect the territorial integrity of the United States and achieve 100% operational control of the southern border.
