MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – This week’s Wild Weasel of the Week (WWoW) is Airman 1st Class Noemi Segura-Valdez, 35th Operations Support Squadron (OSS) aircrew flight equipment (AFE) apprentice.
WWoW honorees are selected from across Misawa AB for their exceptional performance, mission focus, and commitment to the Air Force core values.
Segura-Valdez delivered an engaging tour for Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp. cadets alongside five other agencies, offering hands-on experiences with F-16 simulators and highlighting key AFE used in F-16 operations.
Cadets learned about the inspection, repair, and maintenance of mission-critical gear, including helmets, oxygen masks, survival vests, G-suits (anti-gravity suits), and anti-exposure suits—all essential to ensuring aircrew safety and mission success.
“I would not be the leader I can be without the people I surround myself with; to be recognized means we are all seen,” said Segura-Valdez.
Her professionalism and ability to connect with the cadets earned her a letter of appreciation from a retired Air Force major. She also received a letter from Sollars Elementary School for her help in renovating classrooms for the upcoming school year.
As part of her leadership efforts, she planned and led two “First Friday” events for the 35th OSS, aimed at boosting morale and strengthening Airmen resiliency. Through these events, she fostered a more positive unit culture and strengthened team cohesion.
In her free time, Segura-Valdez is on the women’s base softball team, traveling to two tournaments that led to the integration of personnel from various squadrons, while also managing the base softball team.
“I wouldn’t be the leader I am today without the people I surround myself with,” said Segura-Valdez.
