Raider Brigade relinquishes authority to Greywolf Brigade
By Capt. Matthew Olsen
ZAGAN, Poland – The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, Raider Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division officially concluded its rotational deployment to Europe, transferring authority to the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, Greywolf, 1st Cavalry Division during a ceremony held Oct. 3, 2025 in Zagan, Poland.
The Transfer of Authority ceremony marked the seamless transition of responsibilities between the two premier armored brigades, ensuring the uninterrupted presence of U.S. combat power on NATO’s Eastern Flank. The event underscored the United States' unwavering commitment to NATO allies and the security of the region.
Raider Brigade’s nine-month rotation was defined by its focus on readiness, multinational cooperation, and deterrence. The brigade rapidly set a warfighting stance, executed a Combat Training Center rotation at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, and trained to company-level proficiency alongside NATO allies and partners.
"Raider Brigade was instrumental in forging powerful bonds with our partners and demonstrating combat credibility," said MAJ Aram Hatfield, Raider Brigade Operations Officer. "We have full confidence that the Greywolf Brigade is ready to build on that foundation and further strengthen Europe’s collective defense posture."
Arriving from Fort Hood, Texas, the Soldiers of the Greywolf Brigade are now tasked with continuing the mission of enhancing deterrence and building interoperability with NATO allies. Their deployment will focus on rigorous joint training exercises, reinforcing defensive postures, and assuring allies of America’s steadfast commitment to collective security.
Greywolf brings a legacy of decisive action and a mission-first attitude to the theater and must rapidly integrate into the dynamic multinational environment and continue the vital work of strengthening the Eastern Flank.
The Greywolf Brigade’s assumption of the mission marks a new chapter in the U.S. Army’s enduring promise to European security. Their presence ensures that the bonds of partnership and the commitment to stability in the region remain stronger than ever.
