U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY – U.S. and Royal Saudi Air Force service members converged for an integrated foreign object debris walk during a bilateral Air Safety Day, reinforcing shared commitments to aviation safety and strengthening alliances within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, Aug. 13, 2025.

The event, hosted by the RSAF Safety Wing in collaboration with the 378th Air Expeditionary Wing Safety Office, featured a FOD walk across the airfield, multiple vendor demonstrations and culminated in a safety brief given by both forces. By combining U.S. and RSAF personnel and resources, the teams directly enhanced airfield safety operations while strengthening interoperability.

“These partnerships foster better relationships by facilitating the exchange of best practices in aviation safety, enhancing communication and establishing a foundation for future collaboration on shared safety challenges,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Caleb Odom, 378th AEW safety non-commissioned officer. “This experience reinforced the importance of fostering a shared commitment to safety across diverse organizations.”

Air Safety Day was built on detailed planning and teamwork. From scheduling around airfield operations to developing safety academics and synchronizing efforts across multiple U.S. and RSAF squadrons, leaders on both sides demonstrated adaptability and precision planning.

“Partner nation integration programs like Air Safety Day are strategically important because they bolster interoperability, strengthen international relations and enhance global security,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Preston Egan, 378th AEW chief of safety. “This leads to increased cooperation on future initiatives, improved communication during integrated operations and a more robust and unified approach to addressing common challenges in the aviation domain, ultimately strengthening our alliance.”

For both nations, the lessons learned were clear: effective safety programs require not only rigorous standards but also shared commitment. Air Safety Day demonstrated that cultivating strong partnerships through safety directly enhances readiness, ensuring both forces are prepared to operate together in a demanding and complex battlespace.
