The 352d Special Operations Wing recently returned from Halli, Finland, after participating in Exercise SOUTHERN GRIFFIN.
Air Commandos from across the SOW came together throughout the entirety of the exercise showcasing their ability to operate jointly with national and international cooperation partners.
“Southern Griffin was an absolutely positive experience for us,” said the Exercise SOUTHERN GRIFFIN mission commander. “Our Air Commandos were dispersed across multiple locations while working closely with our Finnish hosts and other NATO allies to build warfighting capacity, expand military capability, maintain readiness, and deepen our operational integration.”
That integration included working closely with a Finnish-led staff and communication structure including nine NATO Allies and more than 1,600 participants.
“We took advantage of every training opportunity to conduct core mission essential task training sets, with our NATO Allies and with our U.S. Special Operations Command counterparts, resulting in huge successes for the entire team.”
The SOW specifically executed more than 180 flying hours, moving over 83,000 pounds of cargo while directly supporting five NATO countries.
“Every member from the SOW sent to support this exercise was highly motivated and fully engaged on maximizing this opportunity,” said the mission commander. “We certainly look forward to future opportunities to train alongside our NATO allies in this region – we value this alliance and are eager to continue building on the successes of this exercise.”
Showcasing NATO interoperability while developing the environment for future exercises was a vital goal for the 352d SOW team during Exercise SOUTHERN GRIFFIN.
