Members of the 35th Force Support Squadron (FSS) completed preparations and installed new air conditioning (AC) systems at Misawa Air Base Japan, Sept. 12, 2025, in an ongoing base-wide effort to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for service members and families.

During previous summers, room temperatures at the Misawa Inn have consistently climbed during the hottest months of July through September. In response, the base has taken proactive steps to enhance guest comfort by installing AC units to ensure a more pleasant and enjoyable stay during future warm seasons.

“Normally our guest satisfaction rate runs around 98%, except in the summertime,” said Brenda Akanuma, 35th FSS lodging trainer and quality assurance evaluator. “So when you’re in the middle of PCSing, those days can seem even longer.”

The new AC system is a centralized two-pipe design, requiring extensive infrastructure upgrades. Two housing facilities were completed earlier this year, with renovations of additional facilities scheduled to start in January 2026. Tower 118 will follow with the overall renovations projected to be completed by mid-2027.

“Everyone’s requesting the AC rooms. They love them,” said Jordan Sharp, 35th FSS lodging manager. “It’s having a positive impact, people want to stay with us.”

Facility improvements will continue at Misawa AB, with renovations staggered to maintain mission support and operational capacity for incoming personnel.

Members of the 35th FSS and Misawa Inn staff remain committed to providing comfortable, modernized lodging that strengthens the 35th Fighter Wing’s ability to receive, house and support Airmen and families, ensuring combat-ready forces are prepared to project airpower across the Indo-Pacific.
