MEMPHIS — Alongside Soldiers who reside in the local area, the U.S. Army’s Fitness Challenge appears at Southwind High School’s gymnasium, for students’ education and enjoyment of physical fitness, Wednesday, September 24, from 7 to 2 p.m.
This student-focused, Army event is designed to teach leadership, teamwork, and physical fitness values in students, while sparking interest in future careers and post-graduation opportunities the Army has to offer.
Exclusively visiting a select number of schools across the Country each year, the one-day fitness challenge occurs during Physical Education classes with cash prizes and giveaways throughout.
“Students will have a chance to get their hands on branded hoodies, t-shirts bottles lanyards and more items,” Capt. Travis Fulmore, Memphis Recruiting Company Commander said. “The best part is students can get high score, which are tallied during the challenge, for a chance win $1k for their school.”
Circuits and stations of physically demanding movements and exercises will be situated in the school’s gymnasium as students compete for prizes and standing to be ranked against other competing school.
Effectively the Army Fitness Challenge, itself, is easy for faculty and staff to apply as an optimal benefit to their respective school.
“Local Army Recruiters in the greater Memphis-area will accompany students for the day’s events of physical challenge to help budding Juniors and Seniors think about life and what’s next.” Fulmore said. “Best of all it is free for the school and easy for teachers to request and coordinate arrival of the event.”
