TRINIDAD, Colo. – Soldiers assigned to Alpha Company, 68th Division Sustainment Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Sustainment Brigade demonstrated the importance of water conservation at this year’s 12th Annual Trinidad Water Festival on May 21, 2025, at Trinidad State Junior College, Trinidad, Colo.
“Through community outreach with local organizations and community leaders,” said 1st Lt. Cole Becker, 68th battalion excutive officer. “We are able to reinvigorate a network of support that strengthens our commitment to the many people we serve.”
This year marked the first appearance of Soldiers from Fort Carson at the Trinidad Water Festival event which lured a crowd of over 1,000 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.
“Coming out to Trinidad was an amazing opportunity,” said Spc. Jovan Gladdenmorten, water treatment specialist, assigned to 68th DSSB. “Us giving back to the community by cultivating a learning environment to the youth here and the importance of water conservation.
The Soldiers from Alpha Company, 68th DSSB which are military occupation specialist 92W: Water Treatment Specialist showed the process of transforming contaminated water into drinkable water using cutting edge military equipment they convoyed with from Fort Carson to Trinidad, Co.
The Tactical Water Purification System (TWPS) is a mobile multi-stage purification system, which use reverse osmosis and UV filtration to purify water for Soldiers in the battle field and training exercises.
“Being able to take our equipment and show the community what we do in the army was great,” said Spc. Joshua Saunders, water treatment specialist assigned to 68th DSSB. “Teaching the kids about how we purify water in the military, I would love to have the opportunity again.”
The Trinidad Water Festival continues to promote a deeper understanding of water conservation along with Soldiers from 68th DSSB cultivating a learning environment to the youth population of Southern Colorado by sharing their expertise in water purification and conservation.
