An aircrew from the Royal Australian Air Force made the longest journey to the 2025 Joint Base Andrews Air Show by bringing their E-7A Wedgetail aircraft for static display Sept. 12-14, 2025.
Nestled between two of the largest aircraft in the U.S. Air Force inventory – the C-17 Globemaster III and C-5M Super Galaxy – the E-7 was available for onlookers as the aircrew greeted visitors and answered questions about serving their country’s defense mission as well as supporting the U.S. and other allies.
“They’ve been really intrigued with the mission that we conduct, and it’s been really cool to explain it,” said RAAF Squadron Leader Kieran Frost, Air Battle Manager.
The E-7A provides airspace battle management, and the crew can coordinate joint air, sea and land battle missions. It’s based on the Boeing 737, which is also the same platform as the C-40 operated by the 89th Airlift Wing and 113th Wing at Andrews.
The Australians were in the middle of an integration exercise with U.S. Air Force and Navy units on the West Coast. After leaving Andrews, they flew to California for another week to complete the exercise.
“It’s been fantastic with the ability to show the jet off,” Frost said. “We’ve been lucky to be the only – I believe – foreign aircraft on display here.”
The Wedgetail operates from RAAF Base Williamtown, South Wales, on Australia’s east coast.
