The German contingent of the Marshall Center extended a warm invitation to their U.S. partners for a day of camaraderie and competition July 8, 2025, at a friendly shooting event held in the neighboring village of Mittenwald, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The stakes: the Schützenschnur, a historic and highly regarded marksmanship badge presented by the German Armed Forces to participants who demonstrate exceptional proficiency in marksmanship. The badge features a braided cord with a bronze, silver, or gold emblem, indicating the level of expertise achieved.
Participants at the day's event aimed (quite literally) to meet the rigorous standards required to earn the accolade, which included various shooting exercises designed to test participants' accuracy and consistency with a variety of firearms.
German and U.S. soldiers competed side by side, fostering a spirit of friendly competition and mutual respect. The event served as a unique opportunity for participants to engage in cross-cultural exchanges and strengthen the already tight bond between the two Allied nations.
