U.S. Army ROTC Cadets Melani Sotelo-Leon and Sylas Sisson, both from the University of North Georgia (UNG), briefed Marshall Center leadership in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on July 7, 2025.
Their summer research focused on strengthening youth engagement in international security. Their findings underscored the importance of mentorship opportunities and greater incorporation of youth perspectives in security and defense discussions, which are critical to strengthening resilience among future leaders.
Following their presentation, Marshall Center staff commended Sotelo-Leon and Sisson for their impressive work and poise—efforts that reflect both their professionalism and potential as future security practitioners.
By connecting education with practical experience and ensuring voices of the next generation are heard, we can build a stronger security network for the future that supports stability across the Euro-Atlantic community.
Cadet Melani Sotelo-Leon is majoring in international affairs with a concentration in Europe and a minor in Russian. She has served as a chaplain in the Corps of Cadets and will serve as 2nd Battalion’s public affairs officer this year.
