With the start of the 2007 SemperComm Art Competition, the SemperComm Foundation is challenging all U.S. high school students to stretch their creativity in support of the troops.
The foundation announced today that it’s now accepting artwork created by high school students for the competition. The contest asks entrants to develop works around the theme of “For Them” -- a theme tied closely to SemperComm and its activities.
The SemperComm Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supplying communications and entertainment equipment, software and services to small, remote overseas U.S. military bases. It is also a member of America Supports You, a Defense Department program showcasing ways Americans support the nation’s servicemembers.
"We want the students to stretch their minds (and) think outside the typical 'red, white and blue' box and create pieces that uplift our men and women in uniform," said Lara Coffee, SemperComm's executive director.
The contest, open to any United States high school student, consists of three categories of artwork: photography, illustration and mixed media. All pieces must be received by March 7, 2007. Winners will be determined and notified within 45 days of the close of the contest.
Winners, along with two parents or guardians, will be invited to attend the 2007 SemperComm Gala on May 10, 2007, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott hotel, in Arlington, Va. Contest winners will receive their awards at the gala, where their works will be displayed. The winning pieces also will be available for viewing on the SemperComm Web site.
All entries must be matted and cannot be larger than 24 inches square.
Additional rules and entrance forms are available on the SemperComm
Web site.
SemperComm receives major support from Computer Systems Center Incorporated, a defense-oriented software-development company; Stars For Stripes, a nonprofit group that brings celebrity entertainment to U.S. military personnel; and PC Recycler, an electronics recycling and services company.
