BAGHDAD --The 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 506th Regimental Combat Team, as part of Task Force Ironhorse, uncased the battalion colors during a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Loyalty Friday.

The 4th BSTB, which includes military police, engineer and signal elements, provides combat support for the 506th. The unit assumed the role that previously belonged to the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division BSTB.

"They were extremely professional and very helpful. They did so much to make sure we were set up for success," said Lt. Col. Christopher Hall, battalion commander, 4th BSTB.

The battalion will support the 506th mission in assisting the newly elected government and combating the terrorist forces in the eastern Baghdad area of operations.

The goal is that this part of Baghdad can be turned over to the appropriate Iraqi forces, said Hall. He sees the unit becoming more cohesive over the course of the deployment and is proud of what it has already accomplished.

The battalion colors were uncased by 1st Sgt. Max Lassiter, acting command sergeant major, 4th BSTB. "We will be part of history," said Lassiter. "This is the first time that we, as a battalion, are at war. We are setting the precedent for those who come after us."

The transition of authority represents another step in the ongoing process of helping the freely elected government of Iraq to perform the tasks of civil administration and enforcing the rule of law. The 4th BSTB is committed to working with the people of Baghdad in support of the burgeoning democracy in Iraq.

"We need to walk delicately to make sure that takes place," said Lassiter.

As for what the future holds for the 4th BSTB, Lassiter said, "Hopefully, in a years time, our area of operations will be back at Fort Campbell, and we will be returning home as combat veterans," said Lassiter.
