FORT LEE, Va. – In a move highlighting the Army’s adaptability and commitment to leveraging specialized expertise, Chief Warrant Officer Five Anthony “Tony” Hall was appointed as the U.S. Army Quartermaster School Aerial Delivery and Field Services Department deputy director.
This unprecedented decision marks the first time a warrant officer has been formally recognized in a field grade major role within the ADFSD, a vital force generation institution for the Joint Aerial Delivery force.
The appointment came following a vacancy in the deputy director position in August 2024, requiring a swift and innovative solution to maintain the ADFSD’s critical functions. The ADFSD is responsible for training both U.S. service members and international partners, directly impacting global operational reach and sustainment efforts.
“Maintaining a high state of readiness is paramount,” said Jason Hanifin, ADFSD director. “This department is essential to producing the Aerial Delivery Specialists needed to enhance strategic deterrence along with lethality. CW5 Hall’s experience and leadership were the clear choice to ensure continued success.”
CW5 Hall brings over 30 years of dedicated service to the aerial delivery community, including prior command experience in a combat environment and previous ADFSD experience from 2014-2017. Most recently, he served as the U.S. Army Pacific Command Aerial Delivery Officer, a role crucial to establishing “Pacific Pathways” and operations within the Indo-Pacific region.
The ADFSD’s responsibilities extend beyond basic training, encompassing Advanced Individual Training, warrant officer and non-commissioned officer training, and proponent activities like the Army Airborne Board and International Airborne Commanders Forum. The department also provides crucial support to ongoing operations, including U.S. Central Command’s efforts in Gaza and Army Materiel Command’s management of prepositioned stocks.
This decision underscores the Army’s recognition of the value of its warrant officer corps and their ability to operate effectively at both the operational and strategic levels. "CW5 Hall’s appointment shows that the Army’s educational process coupled with the right broadening assignments can generate a talented officer that can be adaptive enough to fill in roles that above their expected career path to ensure the Army’s institutions remain effective in maintaining readiness and lethality," said Hanifin.
The Army views this as a testament to its commitment to identifying and utilizing quality leadership, capable of rapidly adapting to meet evolving challenges and ensuring continued success in a dynamic global landscape.
