KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Soldiers assigned to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command participated in Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) training June 17-27 at Panzer Kaserne in Kaiserslautern, Germany, as part of the Army’s continued effort to enhance total Soldier readiness.
Led by certified H2F performance professionals, the training blended classroom instruction with hands-on application to reinforce the five key domains outlined in Field Manual 7-22: physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual readiness.
“Usually, Soldiers think they’re coming to this class to learn ABCP, how to tape, how to implement the ACFT, and how to do PRT,” said Sgt. 1st Class Martha Erosa, a physical therapy specialist with the Leader Training Brigade. “But really, we go beyond that. We teach them the fundamentals to create solid training programs and bring them back to their units. We are agents of cultural change.”
Erosa said the training isn’t just about fitness. It’s about empowering leaders to create sustainable change within their formations.
“They also learn a lot about general nutrition and sleep,” she said. “We try to hit all of the pillars of H2F.”
The course began in the classroom, where Soldiers discussed injury prevention, mobility, recovery techniques, fueling for performance, and the importance of quality sleep. Afterward, they transitioned into practical sessions focused on movement drills, dynamic warm-ups, and strength-building exercises designed to reduce injuries and enhance functional performance.
For many Soldiers, the training went beyond physical improvement.
“The biggest takeaway today really is the camaraderie,” said Staff Sgt. Isaiah Walton, a senior mechanic with the 515th Transportation Company. “Everybody here wants to be here, and everybody gave their maximum effort. So once they get back to their units, they’ll implement solid plans for the readiness of the unit.”
The Army’s H2F system is designed to develop resilient, well-rounded Soldiers by integrating fitness, wellness, and performance strategies into daily routines. By focusing on long-term well-being, the program helps reduce non-combat injuries, improve ACFT outcomes, and build cohesive, combat-ready teams.
H2F remains the Army’s foundational framework for sustaining Soldier performance and readiness in a multi-domain operational environment.
