DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- On May 10, two members of the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations team embodied the spirit of resilience by competing in the Race4Warriors 5K—an event dedicated to honoring those who served in the Middle East.
Joy Clifford, AFMAO Resource Division advisor, joined by her mother, who also participated, showcasing the importance of community and family, and Master Sgt. Julian Siapno, AFMAO First Sergeant, each placed in their respective races.
Clifford has been running races with her mother across Delaware for years since her mom moved to the state, however their love for the sport increased after Joy beat breast cancer, same as her mom years prior. Clifford and her mother seek out races that have meaningful purpose to the pair, often running in breast cancer awareness races and community events.
Clifford emphasized that last weeks 5k was especially meaningful to her as she served in the military and the civil service during the peak periods of the U.S. military being in the middle east.
The AFMAO members and families participation demonstrated not only physical endurance, but also the emotional and mental resilience that defines military service and the continued mission to honor our fallen.
