YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — 28 Airmen from the 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron were officially inducted as dedicated crew chiefs during an induction ceremony at Yokota Air Base, Japan, May 28.

Before selection, candidates undergo a competitive evaluation process. They must be nominated by leadership and demonstrate technical expertise, reliability and consistent professionalism on the flightline. Once chosen, new DCCs are assigned to a specific aircraft, taking ownership of its maintenance, records and overall readiness.

“Becoming a DCC showcases that one cares about their work and takes pride in what they do,” said Airman 1st Class Matero De La Torre, 374 AMXS crew chief. “Dedicated crew chief ceremonies serve as an opportunity to recognize those who are willing to take on the extra responsibility and workload that comes with being a DCC.”

The 374 AMXS is responsible for maintaining the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron, which supports tactical airlift operations across the Indo-Pacific region. The DCC program’s role ensures each aircraft remains mission-ready to support rapid mobility and humanitarian response efforts.

“Inducting new DCCs supports Yokota’s mission objectives by ensuring each aircraft has a dedicated professional responsible for its readiness,” said Senior Airman Jaxon Waba, 374 AMXS crew chief. “Being a DCC boosts accountability, streamlines maintenance efficiency, and ultimately enhances sortie generation and mission reliability.”

The dedicated crew chief program is a long-standing Air Force tradition that encourages aircraft ownership, instills professional pride and strengthens unit cohesion. It enhances maintenance standards by fostering a deep sense of personal accountability among Airmen.
