MAYPORT Fla. (June 10, 2025) – Cmdr. Travis Snover relieved Cmdr. Philip Galindo as USS Wichita (LCS 13) Commanding Officer, during a change of command ceremony at Naval Station Mayport, June 10.
Cmdr. Galindo charted the course for USS Wichita’s upcoming deployment. Through his leadership, Wichita completed an extensive maintenance availability which included the replacement of one of the ship’s two main propulsion diesel engines and both combining gears. Upon completion, he led the ship through its first underway in nearly two years and paved the way for the ship to complete its basic training phase. Galindo oversaw the completion of numerous warfare area certifications to include Aviation, Damage Control, Navigation, Communications, and Search & Rescue.
Wichita played a pivotal role in testing new systems. In conjunction with HX-21, Wichita successfully tested the digital horizon reference system for use during flight operations to aid in landing during adverse weather conditions.
“I am incredibly proud of each and every Wichita Sailor. They have overcome tremendous obstacles to bring the ship back to life and learned important lessons that have developed the grit and tenacity required for them to succeed in their future deployment,” said Galindo. “Take this confidence you have gained to go out and make a difference. There is nothing you cannot do – together!”
Cmdr. Galindo is a native of Coral Springs, Florida, and previously served as the executive officer aboard USS Little Rock (LCS 9). Galindo will report to Commander, US Pacific Fleet for duties assigned in the maritime operations center.
“It is an honor to assume command of this exceptional ship and crew. It has been humbling to see the Wichita team in action and take each challenge head on,” said Snover. “I look forward to continuing to be a part of the Wichita family and proudly representing the city of Wichita as our ship completes training and sets out to do the Nations' tasking."
Cmdr. Snover, an Iowa native, previously served on the staff of Surface Warfare Schools Command in the N75 department as the Command Assessment and Major Command courses coordinator and most recently as executive officer aboard USS Wichita.
