WASHINGTON— DC Government Operations for the DC National Guard (DCGO) recognized outstanding civilian employees during the 2024 Quarter III, Quarter IV, and Annual Awards Ceremony held April 30 at the DC Armory. The honorees were praised for their critical behind-the-scenes roles supporting the missions of the D.C. National Guard.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for earlier this year, was delayed to allow DCGO employees to focus on supporting a surge in DCNG service members, as the District prepared for and responded to several National Special Security Events (NSSEs) in late 2024 and early 2025.

Wednesday’s event, attended by agency leadership, uniformed personnel and staff members, highlighted employees who serve in fields such as facilities management, public affairs, engineering, administration, youth outreach, and environmental services. All recipients are part of the DCGO workforce, which supports DCNG’s operations across the District of Columbia.

“These employees are the backbone of our agency,” said Marcus Hunt, DCGO director. “Their contributions enable our Soldiers and Airmen to stay mission ready. From engineering to youth programs, IT, administration, and custodial services—they keep this organization moving forward.”

The following individuals were recognized for their exemplary performance:
    Quarter III Award Winners:
    • Category I: Dione Robertson, Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy
    • Category II: Al Day, DCGO Local
    • Category III: Nelzon Herrera, 113th Civil Engineer Squadron
    • Category IV: Maria Tapia Montano, CFMO Green Team
    • Category V: Christopher Luckett, 113th Civil Engineer Squadron
    Quarter IV Award Winners:
    • Category I: Larnita Day, 113th Civil Engineer Squadron
    • Category II: Ayan Sheikh, DCGO, Public Affairs
    • Category III: Mike Rinehart, CFMO Blue Team
    • Category IV: Veronica Arnez, CFMO Green Team
    • Category V: Corey Chester, CFMO

    Annual Award Winner:
    • Philip Burk, Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy
In his remarks, Hunt compared the impact of DCGO’s workforce to that of the military’s enlisted corps.
“Just as enlisted personnel are the heart and soul of our national defense, our DCGO professionals are the strength behind the Guard’s ability to operate and succeed,” Hunt said. “Their hard work, commitment and leadership drive our mission.”
Maj. Gen. John C. Andonie, Commanding General (Interim) of the D.C. National Guard, commended the honorees for their dedication to service.
“The excellence on display today reflects the heart of who we are as a team.”
“These awardees represent the best of our support community—dedicated, mission-focused, and unwavering in their commitment to enabling the success of the D.C. National Guard.”
The ceremony closed with a message of gratitude and momentum from Hunt.
“Together towards tomorrow. We will continue to support one another, foster excellence and honor the people who make our mission possible.”
