    Story by Capt. Jose Emperador

    377th Theater Sustainment Command

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The first wave of 377th Theater Sustainment Command Soldiers began redeploying from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, April 18, back to the U.S. as the military mission supporting the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief effort -- Operation Unified Response -- begins to wind down. Members of the Army Reserve unit, commanded by Maj. Gen. Luis R. Visot and headquartered at the Naval Air Station — Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chase, La., began arriving in the earthquake-ravaged country in late January.

After spending a few days out-processing and debriefing at Fort Bliss, Texas most of the 51 redeploying soldiers will return to New Orleans while others, who were temporarily assigned to the logistics command unit for this mission, will return to their respective home stations throughout the U.S. A larger group of 377TH TSC soldiers still remain in Haiti continuing to support the humanitarian mission and will redeploy at later dates.

With over 44,000 Soldiers spanning some 42 states, the 377th TSC is the largest command in the U.S. Army Reserve. It is an operational headquarters for logistics functions within a given area of operations and is uniquely qualified to plan, control and synchronize at all levels of logistical sustainment.

Prior to them boarding an awaiting C130 military aircraft, Visot, the commanding general of the Joint Logistics Command — Haiti mission, thanked his soldiers for their hard work and commitment to the mission and wished them a safe and speedy trip home. He also asked the soldiers to thank their families on his behalf for their sacrifices and continued support of the Army Reserve.
