    III Armored Corps

Fort Cavazos, Texas– The Chief of Staff of the Army, General Randy A. George, visited Fort Cavazos, February 20-21, 2024. During his visit he met with key leaders around the installation, ate with Soldiers, and toured new housing facilities on Fort Cavazos.

“First [trip] as CSA,” said George. “I came to Fort Cavazos last summer right before I became the CSA. And I really wanted to come down here, because there's so many things that this installation, this power projection platform, is doing for our army.”

George toured the newly renovated barracks on the main installation and also Heritage Heights, an on-post housing community for Soldiers with families. George was able to see how the quality of life on Fort Cavazos has improved across the installation

When asked about the new housing facilities on Fort Cavazos, George said “They're doing a lot of really amazing work here and I wanted to get some more insights on that. This installation with the DPW and that's what I was just looking at are finding really innovative ways. It's like at home, you can't always afford everything that you want to do to your own house. So you have to make some trades and kind of figure some things out. And they've really done a good job of doing that.”

George also met with different command teams from across Fort Cavazos providing him insight into the current welfare of the subordinate units of the III Armored Corps. He wanted to identify the current challenges that the commands are facing within their units. George was able to listen to feedback on what makes the III Armored Corps work well and maintain its lethality.

“Some of this stuff again, you know, for me is to see what the secret sauce is here. Obviously, leadership plays a big role in anything that they're doing here. But they have a lot of really good systems in place. They really care about their people. And I think that's first and foremost, too,"said George.

These talks with the command teams gave George a better view of what policies and procedures can be looked at to better boost morale within not only the III Armored Corps, but the Army as a whole. Visiting different units and Army installations around the world helps George help the Army from the top down.

George said, “One of the things that I just did, it bothers me and I just told this unit, just with all the great things that I see, that's happening here, that people just typically want to write negative things about this group. It's a great community. These are great units, great Soldiers, leaders who care, and we're learning from what they're doing down here. And I wanted to tell all those leaders that because they're quiet professionals down here, just making things happen, and it's important to hear.”

Gen. George also visited the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division motor pool, to award soldiers for their hard work and it also gave him the chance to engage with enlisted soldiers. Soldiers being recognized for their achievements to the Army is a way to boost morale within the units and also show the Soldiers that their discipline and dedication to their field is not forgotten.
