Yeoman 2nd Class Kirianna Escobar is assigned to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota Administrative Department. She serves as the command pay and personnel administrator (CPPA) for NAVSTA Rota, but the multi-functioned Admin office, she helps out in a lot of different areas.
“I handle everything from helping people with their pay to making sure they're gained to the command properly,” she said. “I also assist with passports and Social Security cards.”
As a military child, the constant movement of military life is something she’s accustomed to. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Florida. After high school, she enlisted in the Navy and went to boot camp before heading to "A" School in Meridian, Mississippi. Her first command was NAVSTA Rota and she’s been here for almost three years.
When asked what she loved about being stationed in Rota, Escobar replied, “Location, not a lot of people can say their first duty station is Spain or even say they've been here.”
Outside her daily duties, her big collateral duties include secretary for the NAVSTA Rota multicultural and diversity committee, auxiliary security force (ASF) member, assistant command duty officer (ACDO).
In her free time, she enjoys shopping because “who doesn’t love to shop?!” She also enjoys experiencing the local Spanish culture with her favorite local event being feria.
“It’s so nice to see the Spanish culture compared to ours when it comes to the fair,” she said. “Differences such as food, rides, and the activities they have.”
