    Story by Sgt. Ty Baggerly

    III Armored Corps

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas– Five dining facilities took part in the annual thanksgiving competition here Nov. 21. The competition consisted of a number of categories that were being judged from quality of food, to decor and the ice sculpture.

Lt. Gen. Sean Bernabe, III Armored Corps and Fort Cavazos commanding general, was one of the judges for the competition as well as other senior leaders from across Fort Cavazos. The dining facilities each had their own theme that they presented that included an Egypt theme, and a Princess and the Frog theme among others.

Bernabe awarded the trophy to the winning Dining Facility later on in the day after the points had been calculated.

Sgt. Maj. Kresassidy Mcinney, Chief Culinary Management Sgt. Maj., said “The annual competition is known as the “Super Bowl” for our culinary specialist community. The competition brings facility personnel together to collectively bring to life a vision to present to the diners during the Thanksgiving holiday meal.”

Always Ready dining facility took home the top prize in a very close competition which included edible pyramids and Egyptian themed food. The soldiers worked very long hours to bring the trophy back to their dining facility. They had a number of cakes that all were in line with the theme.

Mckinney said “Soldiers of all ranks can showcase their talent and participate in a positive competition that inspires excellence. The competition provides a place for the senior command teams to come together in one place to give back to the organization. Creating a space to serve and interact with the Soldiers, family, and DoD civilians, and give thanks to their organizations with a smile!”

Sgt. Nuulau Tiamagiagi of 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, and her brother, Lance, were thankful to share a meal with each other, “It’s a honor and privilege because this is the first time he gets to experience where I eat as a Solider.”

The spirit of the competition is important to raise soldier morale but also to show off the different talents of the dining facility.

“It is important for Soldiers/Team to be recognized,” replied Mckinney, “ to boost the morale, continue tradition, and give back to the food service team for their hard work and dedication to supporting and feeding the force one great meal at a time.”

Always Ready Dining Facility will need to maintain their excellence in order to keep the trophy through next year's competition.
