FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – For the first time in recent history, the highest-ranking enlisted signal Soldiers in the Army descended on The Great Place to take part in the Enlisted Signal Symposium here May 16, 2023.

Signal sergeants major from across the Army gathered for a panel focused on educating junior enlisted signal Soldiers on how the U.S. Army Signal Regiment will support the Army of 2030. Leaders opened themselves up for questions in a forum with junior enlisted signal Soldiers from across Fort Cavazos.

“Seeing the highest-ranking enlisted signal Soldiers take the time to come together in one place to hear our voices and answer the tough questions we have for them, and to tell us that they are our voices to get things done, means everything,” said Sgt. Stephanie Melendez, information technology specialist, 1st Cavalry Division G6. “It lets us know that our leaders want our voices heard and are doing everything in their power to help us succeed as signal Soldiers.”

The diverse panel consisted of: Sgt. Maj. Richard Knott, Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G6; Command Sgt. Maj. Jack Nichols, Army Cyber Command; Command Sgt. Maj. Linwood Barrett, signal corps regimental command sergeant major; Command Sgt. Maj. Brandon Dimick, FORSCOM G6; Sgt. Maj. Erica Williams, III Armored Corps G6; Sgt. Maj. Eddie Guerra, 1st Cavalry Division G6; Command Sgt. Maj. Jimmy Joe Castro, 11th Corps Signal Brigade; and Sgt. Maj. Kristoffer Hart, Army Human Resources Command.

While focusing on signal support for the Army of 2030, these leaders were also able to give information and answer questions regarding Soldier’s movement and manning cycles, communications security, the Joint Battle Command Platform, and more.

“My role as the senior enlisted signal leader at III Armored Corps is mentoring and guiding junior signal Soldiers to ensure readiness by providing opportunities, training, mentorship, and an advisor for the personnel and equipment challenges we face,” said Sgt. Maj. Erica Williams, the III Armored Corps G6 sergeant major. “I have heard nothing but positive feedback from our Signal Soldiers (officers and enlisted) about the symposium.”

Although this panel marked the first recent occasion of this volume of senior enlisted Signal leaders in one forum at Fort Cavazos, the U.S. Army Signal Corps remains committed to supporting, training, and mentoring junior enlisted signaleers to continue their service in the Army as professionals in their field.
