YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – Yokota Air Base hosted its first farmers market on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.
The base partnered with more than 25 local farms and vendors to bring a variety of produce from “farm to base.”
As seasonal harvests permit, Yokota plans to hold a farmers market each month between February and October.
“I am excited to join you all here in celebration of today’s event,” said Col. Andrew Roddan, 374th Airlift Wing commander. “I am glad that we can collaborate and create this farmers market event with our amazing and supportive Japanese friends.”
One of the main goals of the farmers market is to increase access to fresh produce and allow the Yokota community and its families to engage with the host nation. Connections made through events and activities like the farmers market help build and maintain the bonds of trust between Yokota Air Base and the local community.
