Vicksburg, Miss. - Brian Green, senior research geologist with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL), was recently selected by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) to lead its newly established Concrete Innovation Council as part of its ACI Foundation.

The Vicksburg, Mississippi, native brings a wealth of knowledge and experience garnered through his more than 30 years of research and development as part of the ERDC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). USACE has a legacy of innovation in concrete technology and the use of concrete and other cementitious materials in its civil works and military mission areas. From buildings and bridges to dams, locks and airfields, concrete materials are an essential component to much of our infrastructure.

“Our team here at ERDC is proud of Brian for this great recognition to support the American Concrete Institute and foster innovation in concrete technology,” said Dr. Robert Moser, ERDC senior scientific technical manager. “Brian’s efforts on the council will include bringing together stakeholders, practitioners and the R&D community from the public and private sector to tackle many of the grand challenges in the areas of infrastructure and construction materials including concrete.”

Currently assigned to the Engineering Systems and Materials Division (ESMD) of GSL, Green is a leader across the federal government in concrete materials and construction. His research focuses on the development of structural grouts, high‐strength concretes, fiber‐reinforced concretes, controlled low‐strength materials, roller‐compacted concretes and ultra‐high-performance concretes. He currently sits on 10 ACI technical committees and task groups.

“Brian has been at the leading front of innovative mixtures for over 30 years. His selection to lead the council is a testament to his recognized expertise in the concrete community,” said ESMD Chief Justin Strickler. “We are blessed to have someone with his level of expertise as a part of our ERDC family.”

Founded in 1904, the ACI is a leading global authority for the development, dissemination and adoption of its consensus-based standards, technical resources and educational, training and certification programs in concrete technology. ACI has over 94 chapters, 244 student chapters and 30,000 members spanning over 120 countries. The ACI Foundation was established in 1989 to promote progress, innovation and collaboration in the concrete industry through strategic investments in research, scholarships and ideas.
