Brotherly Mission: NTAG San Antonio Swear In Siblings

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, UNITED STATES

    05.05.2022

    Story by Edward Jones

    Commander, Navy Recruiting Command

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON - (May 5, 2022) Making the life-altering decision to join the United States Navy is not one to make lightly, but numerous people raise their hands every day promising to protect and defend our country and citizens. Recently, Enlisted Programs Officer (EPO), Lieutenant Michael Wojdyla, and Legal Officer, Lieutenant Kathleen See, swore in a pair of brothers who now await their ship dates as members of the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), thereby earning the title of Future Sailors. The swearing-in phase of the entry process means the members are no longer considered applicants and will remain in DEP until their respective ship dates for recruit training.

First to join was Jaden M. Hardaway, who will graduate on June 5, 2022, from Brennan High School. Sharing his reason for joining the Navy, Hardaway stated, “I am joining for a jumpstart into adulthood, secure my future, and gain lifelong benefits.” Hardaway, who will enter as an Aviation Boatswains Mate Handler (ABH), is excited about the field he has chosen. “This was the most exciting and challenging job I knew about, plus my dad once shahid he wanted to be an ABH if he would have joined the Navy,” said Hardaway who has earned a Letter of Appreciation from Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) San Antonio’s Commanding Officer, CDR Stephani Simoni and a Certificate of Advancement to E-2.

Excited about his pending journey, Hardaway referred his older brother, Malik A. Collymore, who will enter the Nuclear Field Program. Not only will the brothers graduate together as Brennan Bears, but they will also ship together this August. When asked why he is joining the Navy, Collymore shared, “I am joining because the Navy offered greater opportunities than everyone else and I know it would help start my life as an adult.” Collymore let his recruiter, ABHC David Hernandez, know that he was ready to take on the challenge in the Nuke field and make his family proud.

NTAG San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory. (U.S. Navy Photos by NTAG San Antonio staff who received permission to release)
