FORT BRAGG, N.C. – The Junior Paratrooper of the Year candidates gathered Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Hall of Heroes waiting to see who among them would be this year's winner. Junior Paratrooper of the Year is a competition that recognizes military children all over Fort Bragg and all of their hard work to volunteer and do the best they can to support and help others around them. Ultimately, from 20 competitors, one would be chosen who encompasses what it means to be a selfless server to the community.

Daniel Conley was selected as the Junior Paratrooper of the Year for his commitment to serving the community and those around him. Daniel’s volunteer work with the U.S.O., as well as being a core leader in his school’s science olympiad team, captures the spirit of a community leader perfectly.

“This year’s Junior Paratrooper exemplifies the best attributes of an Army child. They have been generous with their time and themselves. I see nothing but good things in this young child's future,” 82nd Airborne Division Commander, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, said about Daniel Conley.

In one word, Daniel was asked to describe what it means to be a military child. He chose the word “noodles”. Lightheartedly comparing the versatility of a noodle to that of the adaptability of a military child. “I like cooking so it fit what I needed” he said. Congratulating the other competitors, Daniel said, “They all deserved to win this award.”

As part of the ceremony, Daniel received multiple prizes and awards including Nascar tickets and a gift basket in recognition for his hard work in the community. After the ceremony, peers and candidates congratulated Daniel for his efforts to better everyone around him.

Daniel Conley is the son of Sfc. Jason Conley from HHC, 3rd Brigade Combat team, 82nd Airborne Division.
