Q: Can you explain what you do and what you are responsible for at LRC Stuttgart’s Transportation Motor Pool?
A: We maintain and operate a fleet of more than 300 government leased vehicles to include 13 buses, providing a duty bus service and TMP dispatch service to the entire military community of U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart. I am overall responsible for all TMP operations here. I monitor and observe all TMP dispatch operations and bus service operations, which run seven days a week year round, while supervising 25 employees – motor vehicle drivers, motor vehicle dispatchers, operations personnel and more. If there is an accident, I make sure a report is created, submitted and filed. We support multiple commands, units and organizations in Stuttgart to include the U.S. European Command headquarters and the U.S. Africa Command headquarters.
Q: Why is the service you and your team provide to the Stuttgart military community so important?
A: We provide a very important service to U.S. military community members in the USAG Stuttgart area of responsibility. We try to help make their jobs, their missions and their lives a little bit easier by providing a vital and valuable transportation service. It takes a lot of coordination and strong organizational skills to manage and supervise the TMP operations here. I enjoy the challenge, and I understand what my team and I provide is very important.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you?
A: I have a very good team, and I really enjoy working with all the people assigned to LRC Stuttgart TMP. I have 25 people working for me, and they are of many different nationalities. We have Americans. We have people from Africa. We have people from Turkey, Bosnia, Greece and Germany. I enjoy working with all these different people from different backgrounds, different cultures and different experiences. They are all very reliable, they are all very good at what they do, and they all enjoy working for the U.S. Army as part of LRC Stuttgart and the 405th AFSB. I enjoy that.
LRC Stuttgart and 405th AFSB: When it comes to providing day-to-day installation services, LRC Stuttgart directs, manages and coordinates a variety of operations and activities in support of USAG Stuttgart. LRC Stuttgart reports to the 405th AFSB, which is assigned to U.S. Army Sustainment Command and under the operational control of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, U.S. Army Europe and Africa. The brigade is headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and provides materiel enterprise support to U.S. Forces throughout Europe and Africa – providing theater sustainment logistics; synchronizing acquisition, logistics and technology; and leveraging U.S. Army Materiel Command’s materiel enterprise to support joint forces.
