    Deputy Commandant for Information

The Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I) hosted the inaugural Information Summit, bringing together senior leaders from across the Marine Corps alongside representatives from the Air Force, Army and other communities of interest, Nov. 18 and 19, 2021.

The event enabled senior leaders to have threat-informed, classified discussions about how the Marine Corps can continue to operationalize its seventh warfighting function, Information.

The two-day event included briefs from each Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) addressing current efforts in the information environment (IE) with MEF Information Group (MIG) commanders guiding the discussion.

“This Information Summit is about getting the right people in the room to discuss hard problems,” stated Lt. Gen. Matthew Glavy, Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I). “The attendance and overall interest in this summit speaks volumes on the importance of getting after the capabilities and setting conditions we need for advantage in the IE.”

More than 100 service members and civilians attended the event either in person or virtually, to include more than 30 general officers and senior executive service (SES) representatives.

The Information Summit also enabled collaboration across services with briefs from commanding generals, Lt. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) and Lt. Gen. Timothy Haugh, Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber), who addressed information dominance and campaigning in the IE respectively.

Previously, DC I has hosted operational advisory group (OAG) forums between Headquarters Marine Corps, operating forces and supporting establishments, which addressed issues affecting information related occupational fields.

“This Information Summit and OAGs offer a venue for bottom up feedback and top down guidance aimed at increasing the capabilities, development, employability, and overall readiness of Marines executing in the IE,” said Col. Jordan Walzer, Director, Information Maneuver Division (IMD), DC I. “After the summit, we are reviewing actionable items identified during briefs or discussions to ensure we are getting after solutions for the warfighter.”
