Chief Master Sgt. Danielle Hirvela retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service in a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base July 23, 2021.

Chief Hirvela was honored at the Landings Club Ballroom by the Airmen of Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, where she served as both the Chief Enlisted Manager of AFMAO and the Career Field Manager for Base Honor Guard Program Managers across the U.S. Air Force. In addition to her retirement, she was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for her tenure at AFMAO.

Christopher M. McIntire, executive advisor to Air Mobility Command, Air Force Services Center, presided over Chief Master Sgt. Hirvela’s ceremony, and remarked on not only her dedication to the mission, but the positive attitude she brought each day to the job.

“She’s always positive and always encouraging - that’s the Danielle I know,” he said during his remarks.

While at AFMAO, Chief Master Sgt. Hirvela served as the commander’s top advisor on all matters affecting the health and welfare of the AFMAO Airmen in both deployed and permanent party status. She also oversaw 78 enlisted personnel across 64 Air Force installations and managed Base Honor Guard Programs Managers in training, administration, utilization, employment and more.

Chief Master Sgt. Hirvela reflected on her time at AFMAO during her ceremony.

“The mission of providing dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families is one I will never forget,” she said.

Following her retirement, Chief Master Sgt. Hirvela plans to spend time with her family, including her husband Gus and their two children.
