Experience: I’ve been at LRC Italy for almost three years. I was a Logistics Assistance Representative for almost 10 years before I came over to LRC Italy. Before LRC Italy, I was at Logistics Support Team Africa for six months, and I was at Fort Riley, Kansas, supporting the 1st Infantry Division on a Brigade Logistics Support Team.
Other Service: I served 20 years on active duty with the Army – 10 years as an enlisted Soldier and 10 years as a Warrant Officer. I retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 Maintenance Technician.
Hometown: Junction City, Kansas
Family: I’ve been married to my wife, Mandy, for 15 years. I have a daughter, Olivia, who is 18 and in college in Minnesota pursuing an art degree. And Mandy and I have three children – Isabelle (age 15), Audrey (age 13), and Jonathan (age 8).
Q: Can you explain what you do and what your team is responsible for at LRC-Italy?
A: I handle a lot of administrative tasks, including hiring actions, and I work with the resource management branch who do all the budget planning for the entire LRC. I have a future and current operations staff officer plus three additional personnel in plans and operations assigned as subject matter experts in the transportation, maintenance and supply functionalities. The LRC is the supply and logistics element for U.S. Army Garrison Italy, and we manage all the hand receipts for the garrison as well. We are also the appointing authority for all Financial Liability Investigation of Property Loss reports, and we fulfill critical transportation and maintenance support mission requirements for USAG Italy and the tenant units stationed here.
Q: Why is your team’s mission at LRC-Italy so important?
A: Without LRC Italy, the garrison would not be able to meet its mission to sustain the community. We provide all the clothing and equipment for all the service members in the USAG Italy footprint and throughout the Mediterranean region – including embassies, Space Force, NATO units south of the Alps and other organizations – with our Central Issue Facility and our mail order system. All of the supplies and logistics come through our facilities. Everything that touches Italy comes through our customs office and through our central receiving point. We manage all of the property and ensure it’s accounted for. We do all the transportation. We maintain all the emergency equipment – all the firetrucks and military police vehicles. The buses, the armored cars – we maintain and repair everything. We manage a fleet of vehicles for all the units within Italy, including the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa. Simply put – we provide readiness south of the Alps.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you?
A: I enjoy working with the Italian local national employees and the Army civilians and Soldiers here. I think people are the most important part of our mission, and it’s critically important that we take care of our local national workforce. They understand they’re here to support the American Soldiers, and they exhibit a lot of pride working for the U.S. Army. I also enjoy experiencing the culture here in Italy and across Europe, and sharing that with my family. Just recently we did a road trip to Germany, Czech Republic and Austria, and we are planning to go to Rome over Thanksgiving. My wife, Mandy, is our travel agent.
LRC-Italy and 405th AFSB: When it comes to providing day-to-day installation services, LRC-Italy directs, manages and coordinates a variety of operations and activities in support of U.S. Army Garrison Italy. LRC-Italy reports to the 405th AFSB, which is assigned to U.S. Army Sustainment Command and under the operational control of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, U.S. Army Europe and Africa. The brigade is headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and provides materiel enterprise support to U.S. Forces throughout Europe and Africa – providing theater sustainment logistics; synchronizing acquisition, logistics and technology; and leveraging U.S. Army Materiel Command’s materiel enterprise to support joint forces.
