Fort Carson, Colo. - Joint Modernization Command’s Joint Warfighting Assessment 2021 kicked off on June 14 with multi-national partners working on future force development and interoperability in live and constructive exercise scenarios in Hawaii, Colorado, and Washington.
According to Col. Tobin Magsig, Commander, Joint Modernization Command, “Our Army won’t fight alone. We must remain interoperable — both with our sister services across the Joint Force and with our closest multinational allies.”
Joint Warfighting Assessment exercises help the Army evaluate emerging concepts, integrate new technologies, and promote interoperability between the Army, other services and our multinational partners. Joint Warfighting Assessments are the Army’s annual capstone modernization live field experiment/exercise to demonstrate and assess Multi-Domain Operations concepts, capabilities, and formations at echelon (BCT to Theater Army/CJTF)
Brigadier Jason Blain, Commander, Australian 7th Combat Brigade, highlighted the importance of how joint and multinational partners are key to the success of MDO.
“This exercise provides us with an opportunity to work with the United States Army, British Army, and the Canadian Army in a multinational division construct to learn how they operate,” Blain said. “The exercise is also important for maintaining our warfighting competency. Ultimately, we will learn about ourselves and our allies, and understand how we can best work together on operations.”
JWA 21 is an integrated part of a series of linked experiments, including Defender 21, Forager, MDO Live and Project Convergence 21. JMC is the primary live experimentation force for assessing Multi-Domain Operations capabilities for the Army.
“Joint Warfighting Assessments provide an excellent venue to assess our progress integrating our unified action partners into Multi-Domain Operations to ensure we are ready to fight together today and into the future,” Magsig said.
