JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Airmen searching for professional development courses in the New Year have a unique opportunity to attend classes and receive special recognition thanks to installation career assistance advisors.
Through partnerships with Wings, tenant units, and private organizations, the Professional Development team at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, crafted the Langley Education and Development University (LED-U) program. Launching February 1, the program seeks to further the individual development of all Airmen and build a more informed force.
U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Kimberly Noseworthy, 633rd Forces Support Squadron installation career advisor stated: “There is a saying that goes something close to, ‘What if we develop our people and they leave?’ The response to this is, ‘What if we don’t develop our people and they stay?’”
The new program is in line with Chief of Staff of the Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr.’s mentality of focusing on universal skill sets applicable to all career fields across the Air Force.
According to Noseworthy, LED-U now exists as the “vehicle” to ensure Joint Base Langley Eustis’s professional development is in line with Brown’s vision.
“We hope that LED-U motivates individuals to invest in themselves and create a culture of robust [and] deliberate professional development at JBLE,” Noseworthy said.
LED-U provides three graduated tiers of learning: core, operational and advanced. Core classes provide foundational knowledge applicable to all Airmen across the entire rank structure. Operational courses are more in-depth, and focus on information beneficial to members as they promote in rank and responsibility. Advanced topics build on both Core and Operational principles; focusing on specific ranks and duties. Each tier is a composite of a larger, three-level program leading to a certificate signed by the career assistance advisors and the individual’s wing command chief.
“Each certificate requires a significant dedication and a deeper level of commitment to professional development,” said Noseworthy. “By completing all three levels, Airmen distinguish themselves from their peers, [and] assist leadership in identifying members who are investing in themselves and positively influencing those around them.”
