DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich.—The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers announced that a team of researchers, three of whom are from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center, are awarded the 2021 Edmond E. Bisson Award for their paper, “Stability, Thermal Conductivity, Viscosity, and Tribological Characterization of Zirconia Nanofluids as a Function of Nanoparticle Concentration.”
The Army recipients are Dr. Steven Thrush, Mr. Allen Comfort, and Dr. James Dusenbury, all members of GVSC’s Force Projection Technology supporting the Fuels and Lubricants Branch.
The Bisson Award, according to the STLE, “recognizes the most outstanding contribution in the field of tribology published in Tribology Transactions,” referring to the organization’s peer-reviewed journal.
Tribology, or the study of friction and lubrication, and more generally, the interaction of surfaces in motion against one another, is an important field of research in automotive engineering particularly and mechanical engineering in general.
“This is a great accomplishment, it’s awesome for these experts and dedicated professionals to be recognized by the industry,” said Michael Cadieux, Director, U.S. Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center.
“We couldn’t be more proud of this team,” said Jill Bramer, Branch Chief, GVSC Fuels and Lubricants Branch. “This is the true definition of being recognized for being the technical authority.”
STLE is scheduled to formally recognize the team during the organization’s virtual annual meeting in mid-may 2021.
