LOS ANGELES - The Agoura High School football field was the site of a field meet during the Los Angeles Games, June 27, for hundreds of young men and women who will soon be on their way to Marine Corps boot camp.

Poolees from the 13 recruiting substations of Recruiting Station Los Angeles came out to see which station had the best future Marines and to take the Los Angeles Games first place trophy back with them.

Recruiting Substation Hollywood showed that they had the heart and determination to walk away as the best RSS among RS Los Angeles.

"RSS Hollywood was extremely impressive in every aspect of each game, they earned first place hands down," said Sgt. Maj. Willie T. Ward III, sergeant major of RS Los Angeles.

"My poolees wanted to show they were the best at each obstacle, I'm glad their hard work paid off," said Gunnery Sgt. Charles D. Custer, station commander of RSS Hollywood.

Los Angeles Games is an annual event where poolees and recruiters from each station compete against each other through different obstacles such as pull-ups, crunches, relay run, tug-of-war and many more challenges.

"The game I enjoyed the most was dodge ball," said Ward. "It was great to see the competiveness from all the poolees during each event."

These obstacles were meant to challenge the poolees and help them work as a team to accomplish each event.

"These poolees were able to get an inside look into the cohesion and brotherhood of the Marine Corps, I think it will benefit them as they gain confidence to become a Marine," said Ward.

As the poolees will be in the pool for a longer amount of time, the goal is to provide two Los Angeles Games per year.

"Hosting a Los Angeles Games in the summer and winter will help keep them motivated throughout the year," said Gunnery Sgt. Rodolfo V. Gurrola, pool coordinator of RS Los Angeles.

As RSS Hollywood adds their name to the First Place trophy, they want to make sure they start a trend.

"We will be back to defend our title and show we have what it takes," said Custer.
