    3d Medical Command Deployment Support

3d Medical Command Deployment Support (3d MCDS) celebrates its winners for the 2021 division-wide Best Warrior Competition.

Five Soldiers within the command competed in a division-level competition to earn the "Best Warrior" title held at Ft. McClellan, Ala., from April 7-10, 2021.

Competing this year were Staff Sgt. Ashley Sedrowski with the 405th Field Hospital (FH), Staff Sgt. Norberto Domingo with the 332nd Medical Brigade, Sgt. Nicholas Mitchell with the 338th Med Bde, Spc. Aerial Poole with the 444th Medical Ground Ambulance Company, and Spc. Angelo Madden with the 399th FH.

The competition consists of a first-place winner in the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) category, and a first-place winner for junior Soldiers in the rank of E-4 and below.

Placing first as the 3d MCDS Best Warrior NCO, is Staff Sgt. Norberto Domingo, a 74D CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) Specialist. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM), presented by the commanding general, Maj. Gen. Joe D. Robinson and Command Sgt. Maj. Donald Langworthy.

"I put a lot of effort into my training," Domingo said, "spent a lot of late nights and early mornings."

Spc. Aerial Poole, an ICU Nurse on the civilian side, placed first as the 3d MCDS Best Warrior Soldier and was also awarded an ARCOM by the commanding general. Her preparation for the competition included, "running on my own, rucking on my own," she said, "and going to the gym day in and day out."

The first runner-up in the NCO category is Sgt. Nicholas Mitchell, an Active Guard and Reserve Soldier, who was awarded an Army Achievement Medal (AAM), and Staff Sgt. Ashley Sedrowski, the third NCO competitor, who was awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Mitchell stated he had to prepare mentally and physically to prepare for the competition. "I had to know my regulations and warrior battle drills," he stated.

Staff Sgt. Sedrowski, a wife and mother of two, explained "Trying to train has been quite challenging." Despite the odds, she rose to the challenge and motivated herself to compete.

As most Soldiers conducted virtual battle assemblies majority of last year due to COVID-19 social-distancing regulations, Sedrowski's training was conducted primarily at home.

The first runner-up in the E-4 and below Soldier category is Spc. Angelo Madden, who was also awarded an AAM.

Spc. Madden, a 68W Combat Medic, recently mobilized with one of the 3d MCDS Urban Augmentation Medical Task Forces (UAMTF) to support New York hospital staff in the fight against COVID-19.

The 3d MCDS Best Warrior competition consisted of an Army Combat Fitness Test, day and night land navigation, tactical combat casualty care scenarios, rifle marksmanship, 12-mile foot march carrying a 35 pound backpack, along with a written essay and exam.

The 3d MCDS is proud of all of its competitors. Winners will advance to compete in a larger, Army Reserve-wide competition in the coming months.
