Throughout the pandemic, Joint Base MDL’s 5/6 Council built more than 6,000 COVID-19 test kits.

The private organization’s contribution helped support the 87th Medical Group’s testing capabilities for more than 20,000 members on base.

“The COVID-19 collection kit packing party benefits the laboratory tremendously,” said U.S. Air Force Major Sarah Torres, 87th Medical Support Squadron laboratory flight commander. “It saves us hours of time by packing medical materials that are vital to collect the samples that are used for COVID-19 testing.”

The JB MDL 5/6 Council is an Air Force private organization dedicated to enhancing the identity of Non-Commissioned Officers through the internalization of the service’s core values while establishing a network of motivated, dedicated and professional E-5’s and E-6’s.

“Our council contributes to the base by providing opportunities for our fellow NCOs to receive information, training, platforms to discuss current events, issues and concerns so that we can be the best NCOs to develop our Airmen,” said Tech Sgt. Stephanie Rodriguez, 5/6 Council president. “Aside from professional development, our council aims to improve community relations on and off base by recognizing members throughout the Joint Base through our Essential Worker Appreciation and our Rising Leader programs. It is our way of giving back to those who continuously do their part to keep the joint base mission going.”

Although the 5/6 Council is an Air Force private organization, any military member within the NCO tier that is assigned to Joint Base MDL can join, to include members with a line number for E-5.

Elections for the council will be held Feb. 24.
