CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan - United Service Organizations representatives on Camp Foster passed out food and drinks to Marines as they set about their daily duties on Dec. 2.
USO representatives arrived at barracks 473 at 7 a.m. to hand out snacks, fruit, coffee, and hot chocolate.
“Wake Up Wednesday” is a program that began in 2017 according to Alejandra Kwiatkowski, a field programs manager at Camp Foster’s USO.
“Change happens through small acts of kindness,” said Kwiatkowski. “It’s been a tough year. I think the small things like ‘Wake Up Wednesday’, we can get an opportunity to let everyone know we’re here for eachother - sometimes that can only be done in small acts.”
It’s not uncommon for Marines to feel homesick during the holiday season. Any small uplifting act of kindness can change the course of someone’s day - and that’s exactly what the volunteers at Camp Foster’s USO hope to achieve.
The USO strengthens America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country throughout their service to the nation. The USO is a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of millions of generous Americans.
