Staff at the Cherry Point Chapel hosted the first ever Blessing of the Animals outside the St. Michael’s Chapel at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Cherry Point, North Carolina, Oct. 7, 2020. The Blessing of the Animals is held in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assissi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, commemorating his love of all creatures.
“We celebrate the Blessing of the Animals to recognize St. Francis of Assissi’s contribution and love” said U.S. Navy Cmdr. Thomas Bingol, chaplain for MCAS Cherry Point.
The event began with scripture readings and then followed with the individual blessing of each of the animals in attendance with their human companions.
