SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --
The 50th Space Wing’s senior-ranking civilian hosted a civilian town hall Feb. 26 in the Building 300 Auditorium here.
The town hall addressed issues civilians face and solutions and resources available to civilians during their careers.
“The reason we decided to go ahead and host a town hall was to make sure folks are aware wing leadership sees the important and critical role our civilians play,” said Ronald Gevry, 50th Space Wing director of staff.
Air Force Personnel Center, Civilian Personnel Office and the education center representatives spoke during the hour-long event.
“We want to do what’s right to make sure we’re taking care of you, that we’re looking after your interests and that we’re posturing everyone for success from a personal and mission perspective,” Gevry said.
Crystal Moore, AFPC director of the financial management career field team, presented what career field teams can do for civilians.
“We’re here to support you from the career-field team perspective,” Moore said. “If we don’t have you out in the field, we don’t have a job. We’re here to support initiatives to grow and develop the civilian workforce and give you guidance and advice throughout your career.”
Moore discussed career growth and development, force renewal, force sustainment and force development as well as tuition entitlements and resources available for civilians to reach career goals.
To expand on civilian education, James Driscoll, 50th Force Support Squadron education center flight chief, talked about how his section supports civilian development.
Driscoll began his segment by asking how many of the attendees knew Schriever had its own education center. Few hands were raised.
“We just started up an education center a couple of weeks ago,” he said. “Many people have had to go to the [Air Force] Academy or Peterson [Air Force Base to access an education center.] We’ve got everything available for your professional development. From your civilian education or tuition assistance, we want to help you advance your career.”
Additionally, Alisha Davis, 50th SW civilian personnel flight chief, discussed civilian health and wellness, teleworking, alternate work schedules, and overtime, compensatory time and credit hours.
“Work-life programs available to civilians are often overlooked or not known about since we’re in such a high operational environment,” Davis said.
Among other topics, Gevry discussed the Employee Assistance Program, which is available to civilians working for the Air Force.
“The employee assistance program is a program the Air Force has to provide support, advice and help to our civilian employees and their families,” Gevry said. “When it’s appropriate to seek help, engage the resources available to you and your family.”
