FORT CARSON, Colorado –Soldiers, non-commissioned Officers and Officers from throughout 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, gathered as two detachments from 230th Finance Management Support Unit held a casing ceremony 10 February at the William “Bill” Reed Special Events Center to prepare for a future deployment.
“The Soldiers and leaders of Headquarters Detachment 230th Finance Management Support Unit will be taking on a challenging mission,” Lt. Col. Gavin Luher, commander, 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4SB, 4ID said. “They will be maintaining command and control and monitoring multiple finance detachments spread across several countries.”
The ‘Golden Eagles’ operations and impact will span across the Middle East.
“The Headquarters will deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, (Operation Spartan Shield), and will oversee finance operations for most of the United States Central Command area of operation,” said Maj. Aaron Mann, commander, 230th Finance Management Support Unit, 4STB, 4SB, 4ID. “We will be providing mission command to nine finance detachments operating in nine countries. We will be responsible for funding disbursing operations, contract and vendor payments, military pay, and planning current and future finance operations throughout the region.”
The Soldiers, non-commissioned Officers and Officers of the Alpha Detachment will be spread across a total of five countries within the United States Central Command area of responsibility during their nine-month deployment.
“It is an exciting time in the life of this detachment, they are the first active duty detachment to deploy in support of resource management,” said Capt. Glenda Cremidis, commander, Alpha Detachment, 230th FMSU, 4STB, 4SB, 4ID. “They have handled every mission successfully, from serving as the detachment deployed in place for the Commercial Vendor Services, to supporting the Defense Military Pay Office mission servicing 27,000 Soldiers in the Ivy Division. Our deployment will also be a success.”
The Soldiers from the Headquarters Detachment and Alpha Detachment are prepared for their missions.
“Deployment ceremonies like this are sober affairs,” Maj. Mann said. “A strange mix of excitement for getting to do what we joined the Army to do, and a somber reckoning of saying goodbye to lovers and the children we leave behind. I am grateful every day for these Soldiers and their continual sacrifice. There is no greater honor than deploying in service to your country, and I’m excited for what this group of Soldiers are going to do.”
