Sgt. Aven Santiago is a Mass Communications Specialist in the Hawaii Army National Guard. His home unit is 117th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment based out of Pearl City, Hawaii. Santiago enlisted in the military on May 19, 2013, serving for over six years in the public affairs field. Santiago is from Mililani, Hawaii and a graduate of Mililani High School, class of 2011.
Santiago is currently deployed in Germany with Special Operations Command Europe attached SOCEUR Public Affairs. Prior to this assignment, Santiago was attached to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and deployed to Kosovo in support of OPERATION JOINT GUARDIAN with Kosovo Forces: Multinational Battle Group-East from Aug. 2018 to Aug. 2019. Santiago also served during OPERATION HO’OPALEKANA, the lava flow mission on the Big Island, Hawaii. From August 2016-2017, Santiago served at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center as a public affairs specialist in Hohenfels, Germany.
On the civilian side, Santiago has worked at various media outlets in Hawaii. He has worked at KHON2 News, KITV Island News, University of Hawaii Athletics Media Relations, and ScoringLive. He has worked in various positions such as reporter, photographer, videographer, news producer, assignment desk editor, social media manager, and creative services producer.
His military products have been showcased to millions around the world in various media outlets. His work has been featured on FOX News, CNN, Associated Press, NBC, ABC, National Geographic, BBC, amongst others.
His public affairs awards includes Keith L. Ware 2018 – 1st Place, Operational Videography, Keith L. Ware 2018 – 1st Place, Training Videography, Keith L. Ware 2016 – 3rd Place, Social Media video.
