PHOENIX (NNS) – Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Phoenix earned the Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) Gold “R” and the District of the Year for 2019.
The Gold R is awarded to the top performing NRD or Navy Talent Acquisition group (NTAG) under NRC.
Rear Adm. Robert C. Nowakowski, deputy commander, NRC, presented the award to CDR. Mark Moran, NRD Phoenix’s commanding officer, during the district’s annual awards banquet Dec. 5.
During the banquet, Nowakowski congratulated the 220 Sailors assigned to NRD Phoenix for their hard work. “There were several top-performing NRDs and NTAGs around the globe, but NRD Phoenix was clearly dominant.”
Nowakowski talked about the demands of recruiting and lauded the district’s clear sense of duty and mission accomplishment.
“You were the only district in the nation to not only make mission, but exceed mission in every category and all assigned goals in fiscal year 2019,” he added. “You were also the only legacy district in Navy Recruiting Region West to make mission in the officer categories, and one of the few to achieve this incredible success nation-wide.”
Along with exceling in recruiting, NRD Phoenix Sailors continued to train and advance personnel. The district reenlisted 42 Sailors, achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the physical readiness test and NRD Sailors volunteered nearly 5,000 hours in the community.
“Our responsibility in Navy recruiting, is recruiting the top talent for the best Navy in the world. Not only did we do that, but we were the best at recruiting the top talent for the greatest Navy in the world out of 26 recruiting districts [and talent acquisition groups combined],” said Moran.
Moran also thanked the support recruiters received and recognized that no one succeeds on their own.
“An integral part of our success is the help and support from spouses and family members supporting us,” said Moran. “Without our loved ones at home, this awesome achievement wouldn’t have been possible”
NRC consists of a command headquarters, three Navy Recruiting Regions, 16 NRDs and 10 NTAGs that serve more than 1,330 recruiting stations across the world. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
