Lance Cpl. Justin Hanewald, a rifleman and squad leader, with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, leads his Marines with pride in the field, and in garrison.
“I want my Marines to have a love and passion for their job,” said Hanewald. “ If you love your job, you'll never feel like you're working. I truly love being a rifleman and a squad leader.”
infantry squad leaders are the guides and role-models to their Marines, leading them in everyday tasks such as physical exercise, military education, and accountability.
While attending high school, Hanewald was a member of the football and baseball teams in his hometown of Howell, New Jersey. Coming from a military family, Hanewald always wanted to serve in the Marine Corps in 2016, his dream came true when he enlisted as an 0311, Infantry Rifleman.
“There is one thing that you're never going to get anywhere else, and that's the brotherhood you get in the Marine Corps,” said Hanewald. “The people you meet, the people you serve with, the bad times in the field, the bad times anywhere, you go through it all with them. That's what gets you closer and you'll never find that anywhere else.”
Marines with 1/8 are always training to fight and win battles.
“We’re always working. I love it,” said Hanewald. “There’s no better job in the United States Marine Corps than an infantry squad leader.”
Lance Cpl. Hanewald was selected as the 2nd Marine Division Motivator of the Week for his hard work and dedication to 2nd Marine Division.
