USS Ross Hosts French Navy Rear Adm. Marc Aussedat

MEDITERRANEAN SEA (November 29, 2019) - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) hosted French Navy Rear Adm. Marc Aussedat, commander of the Charles de Gaulle Strike Group and commander of Task Force (CTF) 473, to tour the ship and to discuss Carrier Strike Group operations during exercise PEAN 19.

PEAN 19 is a multinational, French-led exercise designed to enhance tactical skills and promote maritime interoperability among participating naval forces. The exercise will bring together forces from France, Italy, Spain, and the United States to provide a realistic training opportunity for all participants to improve combat readiness.

Cmdr. Dave Coles, commanding officer of USS Ross, hosted Rear Adm. Marc Aussedat onboard Ross for a tour of the ship while underway in the Western Mediterranean. As they walked the ship, Coles explained the multi-mission capabilities of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and discussed the added lethality Ross brings to CTF 473.

“It was a pleasure having Rear Adm. Aussedat aboard” said Coles, “Ross is honored and excited to operate as a member of the Charles de Gaulle Strike Group, and the Rear Admiral’s visit ensured Ross that our Franco-American alliance is stronger than ever.”

Ross, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting a routine patrol to support U.S. national security interests in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with Allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
