Eric McCoy is one of the Army’s newest colonels. McCoy, the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence supply chain director, was promoted in front of family and friends in Philadelphia Oct. 3.
“We honor the limitless potential and past success of Lt. Col. McCoy,” Army Brig. Gen. Gavin Lawrence, DLA Troop Support commander said.
Lawrence, who officiated the ceremony, said achieving this great milestone in the life of a soldier could not be done without the love and support of family.
“Thank you all for your unwavering support, not just today, but throughout Eric’s life and military career,” Lawrence said to McCoy’s family.
Lawrence said McCoy is a learned man, but credited his leadership abilities and commitment to the Army as the reasons why he deserved the promotion.
“Throughout his career, Eric has had his soldiers’ back or ‘six’ as we say in the military,” Lawrence said. “He now has the ‘six’ of the men and women of the DLA Troop Support Subsistence supply chain, supporting them as they work tirelessly to provide meals and meal-prep items to our military and other customers around the globe.”
McCoy’s family has Army ties. His father served three years as a K-9 handler, and his grandfather served in the Korean War.
McCoy, a Baltimore native, considered his success in the Army a result of three things he expressed his appreciation for: his parents, his family and the friends and military leaders who helped him arrive at his promotion.
“Talent is given by God and nurtured by parents,” McCoy said. “You can have all the talent in the world, but if opportunity is not presented, you can’t grow. Hard work makes everything go for what we do in the military, but it is the people and the teams that we are on that make the work bearable.”
