BAGHDAD -- A Task Force Baghdad Soldier re-enlisted Oct. 18 at one of the entrances of the International Zone as a way to honor one of his fallen comrades.
Sgt. Julio Alfaro, B Company, 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, chose to re-enlist at the checkpoint because it was the site of the company's first casualty.
Staff Sgt. Jerry L. Bonifacio Jr. was killed Oct. 10 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near the checkpoint he was manning.
"If he could give up his life in service of our country, I can give up a few more years," Alfaro said after the ceremony.
