Indiana National Guard Sgt. Maj. Michael Vogt, a 38th Infantry Division senior infantry sergeant from Lawrenceburg, currently serves in the Middle East in support of Task Force Spartan, which maintains a U.S. military posture in the region to strengthen defense relationships and build partner capacity.
Vogt, a 32-year veteran, serves in the National Guard because of the family-like atmosphere.
“We are like family. In the Guard you know everyone you’re working with, and you’re always working together to get the mission done," said Vogt. "If there is something you need, you always know who to go to."
Vogt said he draws inspiration from former Secretary of Defense and retired Marine Gen. James Mattis: “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”
