Members of the 127thCommunications Flight, 127thLogistics Readiness Squadron and 127th Wing staff are spending two weeks training with the 176thWing of the Alaska Air National Guard and the active duty Air Force’s 673rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, for readiness training.

The readiness training took place Aug. 25 and will continue to Sept. 7, with about 30 members of the Michigan units participating.

Annual readiness training is required for members of the Air National Guard.

“Being in the National Guard gives each of us the unique opportunity to deploy to other bases and interact with our fellow Airmen,” said Major Leonard Ferrell, officer in charge, with the 127th Logistic Readiness Squadron. “These interactions allow us to develop and exchange ideas on how we perform our day to day activities.”

In participating in the readiness training, members of the Michigan units are exposed to various systems that may not be used at their home base.

“This trip is all about our younger Airmen getting training, said,” Senior Master Sgt. Scott Gordon, of the 127thCommunications Flight. “We are working alongside the local active duty personnel and the Alaska Air National Guard, sharing best practices.”

Airman 1st Class Derek Ferracciolo, cyber transport system apprentice with the 127th Communications Flight, gained voice over internet protocol upgrade training while working with his counterparts at JBER.

“With limited exposure of VOIP digital systems, the opportunity to train with the active duty has been great,” Ferracciolo said.
